Grants from the Maine Community Foundation allowed the purchases of a computer and installation of a handicapped ramp.
In September of 2012, the Jackson selectmen established the JLC&HS board (aka “the Library”) appointing seven board members and one alternate On November 12, 2012, the JLC&HS board approved and adopted By-Laws, Duties and Responsibilities and was then submitted to the selectmen for final approval on November 13, 2012. A copy of the By-Laws, Duties and Responsibilities of the JLC&HS board is available for public viewing along with the monthly business meeting minutes at the JLC&HS.
JLC&HS monthly business meetings are held the second Monday of each month in the JLC&HS at 6:45 PM. The meetings are open to the public and the JLC& HS board encourages past/present volunteers to attend and welcomes community members. The JLC&HS has established an email address: email@example.com and a Facebook page: Jackson Learning Center & Historical Society aka the library, to respond to “library” questions and to receive feedback. The JLC&HS not only is a resource/library center, but a showcase for historical memorabilia, oral and written histories. The “library” offers computer access with a wireless connection. The JLC&HS is a place where residents gather for activities such as books clubs, craft groups, game nights, coffee klatches, children’s events, Literacy Volunteer Program and as a community meeting place.
As the result of thousands of volunteer hours the Jackson Learning Center and Historical Society continues to be an example of dedicated community commitment.
